Students:

In Argentina there are public and private Universities. The former are almost free and the latter have higher fees. Both of them are quite open to foreigners having completed their secondary studies. Classes generally take place between March and November.

You can either follow a complete university career (four years or more) or make shorter studies (normally up to one year). In both cases you must have a good knowledge of Spanish before starting. There are no regular studies in English; just a few courses. As their offer changes a lot from one year to another you should address directly to the Universities to check if they are organising some courses in English for the next months.

To follow a complete career. You should choose the University and the career you will follow.
  • If it is a public one you must register in the Embassy in November of each year (to start your studies in the following year). There may be exams or other academic obligations depending on the University you chose. The Embassy will grant you a visa for students.
  • If you select a private University you should address directly to the University and make all the arrangements with their authorities. Once you obtain a letter certifying that you were accepted by one Argentine private University the Embassy would grant you a visa for students.

To follow shorter studies. You should make all the arrangements with the University that you have chosen (either public or private). If you will stay in the Republic of Argentina less than three months you need no visa. If you plan to be there for a longer period the Embassy will grant you a visa for students once you have obtained a letter certifying that you have been accepted by a public or private university or school.

Residence Permits for Students

The visa for students allows you to be in the Republic of Argentina up to one year. Before it expires you could renew it at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones in Argentina, if you need more time to continue your studies. At that moment a certificate of studies in your university/school in Argentina will be requested.
